About the Royal Society: The Royal Society is the independent academy of science in the UK. It was founded in 1660 and works to fund science in the UK and advise on goverment policy. Many important figures have been associated with the society including Charles Darwin. Past presidents include Sir Christopher Wren (1680-1682) and Sir Isaac Newton (1703-1727). Martin Rees, Astronomer Royal, is the current President (since 2005). For more information follow the links on the right.
